Poor Heidi…

After watching some of the hills marathon and seeing the “pre-surgery Heidi” in the early episodes, I couldn’t help but feel sad for the girl.  She was so cute and fresh in early episodes and then seemed to get brainwashed into thinking she needed to look and act a certain way to be beautiful.

It could have been that darn Spencer…but being in Hollywood there is a definite pressure to look like a plastic playmate. Seriously, she doesn’t even look like herself anymore!  I think the old Heidi was adorable.  The little nuances that make us unique and different are the reasons why we are beautiful as individuals!  I have a feeling though that Hollywood left Heidi feeling like she lost her “sense of self”, which caused her to feel like she wasn’t beautiful.  In order to feel beautiful, you have to love who you areinternally, which means being  completely comfortable and confident with who you are as a person, and the message you have to share with the world!  Do you want that message to be that all you have to offer is your looks? Or your sex appeal?

Its much better to be considered adorable than “hot” ladies…believe me.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the concept of beauty today and if you think reality shows  like The Hills are glorifying an unrealistic, unattainable “perfect”…

Have a great evening!

Hi Betsy,

I love your blog, congrats! I completely agree with you! There are so many pressures for women to look a certain way & I think it’s really sad. It makes women doubt themselves and ruins their self-esteem. Uniqueness should be celebrated and embraced!

Heidi was a cute girl until she transformed herself into someone I no longer recognize. I think she is addicted to plastic surgery. She looks like a wax figure. :( I thought she looked better before. I don’t think it’s just her looks that have changed, but her personality as well. She was so desperate to fit into the ‘Hollywood’ image that she changed who she was & what she looked like. Honestly, I don’t think she’s completely content even with all the changes she has made to her body. :(

I just read an amazing book called “Love Your Body, Love Your Life” by Sarah Maria. It talked all about negative body obsession and how to overcome it. It’s a great read and it might help some of your subscribers as it has helped me to look at myself in a brand new way. : )

Gosh dangit, Heidi! You were beautiful and you let your self doubt drive you to a place where you look like a dinosaur. So sad.

I don’t really watch any TV and found this blog looking up Crystal Renn (because I had no idea who she was).

I can’t see any of the before/afters as an improvement but they reminded me of a list that women should consider:

http://guyism.com/2010/06/the-66-most-overrated-women-of-2010.html

if only for this one comment on why one was:

” She’s blond, cute, and looks like a couple dozen other women I have seen this year. ”

That’s what Heidi did and I see it on college women (I live in a town that is 1/3 a 40K+ university) all the time.

Starlets, especially blondes, might as well be rolled out of dough and cut out with a cookie cutter. It’s sad.

The most beautiful woman I dated I see in the faces of 1,001 women and not because they all look the same but because her individual quirks were enough to stand out. When another woman shares one (or something similar) they bring her to mind, not some generic “beautiful girl”. I would think every woman (and man for that matter) would want to retain those things that are remembered as beautiful about them and not some generic “beautiful person.”
