5 Hidden Rules for Open Call (What modeling Agencies Really Look For):

1. HEIGHT!!!! I don’t care if you have a great face…if you are 5’3″ please do not waste anybody’s time. The general industry requirements for height are 5’8″ -5’11″ for women, and 6’0″-6’2″ for men.  Yes it is possible to be TOO TALL. In smaller markets, sometimes you will find guys who are 6’3″, but if you go to any big markets i.e. NY, MILAN, LA….they will not waste their time with you. Also, if you are a small fry..i.e. 5’10″ and below…you are not going to work and therefore will not get signed.

2.  TANNING! Don’t even think about submitting yourself or showing up for an open call with a “healthy” orange glow.  Looking like you live in a tanning bed is not hot….do you ever see any orange campaign girls?? NO! So please save your skin and our time and do not waste money on tanning beds/ spray tanning etc…especially if you have bleach blonde hair…now that’s another topic!

 3. BLEACH BLONDES! The sorority look of bleach blonde hair, tan skin and tons of make up is fine if you are in a sorority and thats the thing to do…but do not expect to have a modeling career if this is what you look like.  It is fine if you highlight your hair every so often if it looks natual and matches your SKIN TONE…however…please do not show up to an open call if you have: thick streaks, two-tone hair, fried bleach blonde hair that is obviously bleached etc… The special thing about models, is that they pull themselves off as being gorgeous NATURALLY…(Men do not even think about bleaching your hair either)

4. MAKE-UP!! Please keep it to a minimal, do not cover your natural beauty up with a pound of make up.  I have asked girls to wash their faces at open call before…I’m serious, if possible please come with no makeup…its best for everyone, trust me.

 5. DON’T BE ANNOYING! If an open call is being held at an office where people are trying to work, please do not try to talk to them, make yourself “more noticable” by being abnoxious, or try to talk with other people (parents please shut up) while the open call is being conducted.  Just quietly wait your turn, if the person conducting the open call asks you questions or instigates a conversaten, then it is ok to talk. Otherwise, we will think you are less annoying and more compatible to work with if you are polite and do not disrupt those trying to work.

Please don’t let these tips discourage you or lower your self confidence, not everyone can be a model, they are freaks of nature, that is why this is a business

However, I’m sure you all are beautiful inside and out….

Hello world!

Hi there!

My name is Betsy and I work for one of the biggest modeling agencies in the world.  Since some of my day to day activities include pulling different clothing looks for test shoots, advising on how a model should cut their hair, wear their make up, skin care routines etc…I thought I would create a blog to share the my in depth knowledge of beauty!

Every so often I may share with you things that I consider beautiful in Betsy land.

Things I consider beautiful at the moment: having a healthy lifestyle, organic skincare, having a fabulous short haircut, being POSITIVE, being prompt, colorful opaque tights, the fact that my desk faces a wall of gorgeous men…there are probably others but I just got distracted…

Anyway, hopefully very soon I will be broadcasting on justin.tv for about an hour or so every evening (after work) to discuss what YOU think is beautiful, what I think is beautiful, questions about the modeling industry, what I think on new fashion trends, questions on skincare (I’m slightly obsessed), and whatever else pops into my head. So get excited and keep your eyes out for me! :)

Muah!

Betsy
